Letter from the Director

sarinWelcome to St James’ Parish Day School! St James’ roots in our community began with our founding in 1968. St James’ has expanded through the years to serve children from nursery through kindergarten in eight classrooms. We are located in the heart of South Pasadena, on the grounds of the beautiful St. James’ Episcopal Church.

St. James’ Parish Day School was founded on the belief that the first five years of a child’s life are the most important ones. At our school, we believe that play is the work of children. When they rush into class to play with puppets, they become storytellers, and they learn to negotiate with friends. When children update the calendar and daily weather, they become mathematicians and meteorologists. When children take turns serving snack, they learn independence and self-reliance. When children come to the table to color during free play, they become artists as they increase their fine motor skills. Throughout each moment of the day, our children at St. James’ are learning, growing and thriving.

Our exceptional teachers create a rich, stimulating curriculum, which builds upon the previous level. We are proud to be accredited by the National Association of Episcopal Schools. We believe that children benefit most when they are able to learn by experience. Our teachers nurture and encourage our children so that they grow socially, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. We strive to create a school environment of compassion, respect, friendship and community.

At St James’, we believe in forging a strong home-school connection. Our teachers welcome parents in the classroom to volunteer regularly. Parents enjoy reading at story time, accompanying us on library walks or other field trips, and attending festive class parties. Through the generosity of our Parents’ Association, our children have the opportunity to pet members of the reptile family, stand inside a five- foot bubble, and listen to musical instruments from around the world- just to name a few! These activities contribute to the unique school experience at St James’.

We strive to create a sense of community for our families. Our children and our families create life-long friendships, and remain closely connected long after they leave St James’. Our graduates go on to attend local area public and private schools, and frequently come back to tell us how much they loved their time with us!

I invite you to join us for a tour. I believe you will enjoy watching our children thrive and see for yourself that St James’ Parish Day School is truly a loving place to learn!

Thank you,
